Enter your 12-word secret phrase on the sign-in screen and your account and chats will be restored on the new device. It's the only way in, so keep the phrase somewhere safe.

Paws are Koto's in-app points, which we're preparing to launch: you'll be able to use them to give gifts and unlock features. They're not a cryptocurrency or electronic money — you can't cash them out or exchange them for money. More details will come closer to release.

Premium is on the way. Planned perks include animated emoji, higher limits, unique themes, and ad-free use. The basic Koto is free and will stay that way.

So you don't depend on SMS and we don't collect unnecessary personal data. Instead of a number, you use a cryptographic key — a secret phrase that's stored only on your devices.

Yes. Private chats use end-to-end encryption — the keys never leave your devices, and we have no access to the contents of your conversations. Some metadata is processed to deliver messages. Learn more on the Security.

Right now the Windows desktop app is available. macOS, Linux, mobile apps, and the web version are in development. You sign in on any device with your secret phrase.

Yes, the basic Koto is free. Premium and Paws are in development and will arrive later as an optional add-on.
