How to redeem a Nintendo eShop code

Nintendo eShop cards, Nintendo Switch Online memberships and digital games all come as a 16-character code. You redeem them the same way: in Nintendo eShop on your console or on Nintendo's website.

Updated October 8, 2026

In short

  • Enter the code in Nintendo eShop under Redeem Code on the left side of the screen.
  • Away from your console? Use ec.nintendo.com/redeem, as long as you've opened eShop with that Nintendo Account at least once.
  • The code region has to match your Nintendo Account country. Games marked Nintendo Games EU are European codes.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 codes won't redeem on the original Switch.

On your console

Connect your Switch or Switch 2 to the internet and open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu. Pick your account, then select Redeem Code on the left. Enter the 16-character code and select Confirm. If it's a game, the download starts right away.

Characters that never appear in codes (O, I, Z, hyphens) are disabled on the on-screen keyboard. Nintendo Switch Online and eShop card codes are redeemed the same way.

On Nintendo's website

Go to ec.nintendo.com/redeem and sign in with your Nintendo Account. Enter the code and select Next, then re-enter your password and select Redeem.

There's one condition: you need to have opened Nintendo eShop on a Switch or Switch 2 with that Nintendo Account at least once.

Code region

Nintendo eShop always follows the country set on your Nintendo Account. A game code only redeems in an eShop of the same region, and eShop cards bought for a specific country only work on accounts set to that country. A code for the Americas, for example, won't work on a European account.

Switch or Switch 2

If you enter a Nintendo Switch 2 code on the original Switch, eShop will tell you the code is meant for Switch 2. The product name shows which console a code is for.

Questions

Questions and answers

Where do I find my code after paying?

On your order page. The code is only available through your order link, so keep it safe.

How do I know if a code was already used?

Check your Nintendo eShop purchase history. If the game is listed there, the code has already been redeemed on that account.

The code isn't accepted

Look for lookalike characters; Nintendo notes a 5 can look like a G or an S. Then check your account country. If everything matches, contact support with your order number.
