How to redeem an Xbox gift card or Game Pass code
An Xbox gift card adds money to your Microsoft account balance, and a Game Pass code adds time to your membership. Both are redeemed the same way.

In short
- Xbox codes are 25 characters: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
- Make sure you're signed in to the right Microsoft account. Xbox Support can't move a redeemed code to another account.
- Some codes only work in their own country or region. The region is in the product name.
- Game Pass can only be extended 13 to 36 months ahead, depending on your country.
How to buy on koto
- 1Pick a card or Game Pass period for your account's region.
- 2Pay for the order.
- 3The code appears on your order page.
- 4Redeem it on Microsoft's site or on your console as shown below.
Where to redeem
The easiest way is the web: go to redeem.microsoft.com or xbox.com/redeem, sign in and enter the code. You can also use:
- an Xbox console: press the Xbox button, select Store, press the View button to open the side menu and select Redeem; enter the code and select Next;
- the Xbox app for Windows: select your gamerpic, then Settings, then Redeem under Redeem a code;
- the Xbox mobile app: tap your profile picture, then the gear icon, then Redeem code.
Before you redeem
From Xbox's own help page:
- some codes only work in a specific country or region, and the region on your Microsoft account should match where you actually are;
- you may be asked for payment info first, but redeeming the code doesn't charge you;
- codes can't be redeemed while the account is suspended or has a balance due.
Extending Game Pass
A Game Pass code adds time to your current membership, up to a maximum of 13 to 36 months depending on your country. If a code would push you past the limit, you'll have to wait until it fits.
Some subscription codes are for new members only. If you've had the membership before, that kind of code may not redeem.
